Neighborhood Cleanup & Picnic Day --- Saturday, September 20th

Please come out in the morning both on the Chimney House and Washington Plaza West sides of the cluster to help beautify the neighborhood. Then, in the late afternoon, join us for a picnic on the lawn in front of the fountain behind A-Block on Chimney House Rd. More details to follow.

New Website

WPCA's website has a new location. Information and news about our neighborhood can now be found at www.lakeanne.net/wpca. The website is provided free of charge by Alec Berry & RestonTech, Inc. They are also the providers of the wireless access to the restaurants on the plaza.

C-Block Lake Wall Lights

Thanks to Dick Wensell and the engineers for Lake Anne of Reston Condominium Association (LARCA), the lights along the lake wall behind C-Block are now functional. No more banged knees walking back from the restaurants late at night.

H-Block Parking Lot Drain

The Board currently has two proposals from Magnolia Plumbing to excavate and replace the broken drain pipe that has been damaged by tree roots. We are searching for proposals from other companies before proceeding.

Parking

The Board is currently considering options to help alleviate the problem of illegally parked cars in the Chimney House parking lots.

Landscaping Committee

The Landscaping Committee has reorganized with neighbors Pete Best keeping the Washington Plaza West side looking nice and Donna Shaffer doing the same for the Chimney House side. If you are interested in volunteering your landscaping skills, please contact Pete or Donna.

Cluster Standards Committee

A new committee has been formed to modify/develop the architectural standards associated with our cluster. Cluster standards are a set of design specifications for certain exterior elements of the cluster architecture that usually define basic requirements or limitations. The standards are kept on file by RA and are used to identify alterations that are acceptable to both the cluster and RA's Design Review Board. The role of this new committee will be to enhance the overall appearance of our neighborhood and maintain property values. The committee currently consists of three members. If you are interested in volunteering your time & skills for this committee, please contact Bryan Smith.

Revitalization

Fairfax County is moving forward with its Comprehensive Plan for redevelopment. The plan is due out this month. The Reston Community Reinvestment Corporation (RCRC) will be holding its board meeting at the Lake Anne Office Building in the 3rd floor conference room at 7:30 pm on September 11th. The topic of discussion will be an amendment draft of the Comprehensive Plan and how to present it to the community.

Feeding Geese

The Board of Directors has been asked to remind our residents not to feed the ducks and geese. The large number of Canada Geese that congregate around our lake are not native to this area. They destroy native vegetation and drive off native birds. Perhaps the worst damage is from their droppings which damage water quality and create slipping & health hazards on our docks. Bread provides poor nutrition and discourages migration and other natural behaviors. For the sake of our environment, ourselves and the birds, please don't feed the ducks and geese!

Need A Contractor?

The Reston Association maintains a contractor directory on their website at www.reston.org. From the main page at reston.org, go to Cluster/Condo Info>>>General Info. The list contains contractors for a wide variety of projects. RA does not endorse the contractors on this list and encourages you to obtain references from the contractor.

Board Meetings

To be held at 7:00 pm on every second Tuesday of the month. Next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9th at the Reston Museum. Board meetings are open and may be attended by property owners and residents.

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting has been scheduled far in advance so as to secure meeting room space. We will meet on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 in the Gallery at the Reston Community Center at Lake Anne. Reminders will be sent out as the date approaches.
